I want to upgrade my laptop, how do I know if my laptop is a PC2100 or a PC2700 in order to match the proper memory from your listing, or does it matter.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5150.
I would like to up grade 2GB if that can be done and is it worth it. Should that not work up grade to 1GB. Can you help me out?
Thank you

It is better to get PC2700 memory. It can be mixed with PC2100. The Kingston recommended memory part number for your Dell D600 notebook are as follow. They will be 100% working on your machine.
512MB KTD-INSP5150/512
1GB KTD-INSP5150/1G
